Transportation Security Officer

Description:

NETS is seeking Transportation Security Officers (TSO) to work at the Rochester International Airport in Rochester, New York. This position performs a variety of duties related to providing security and protection of air travelers, airports, and aircraft. Responsibilities include identifying dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers; preventing such objects from being transported onto aircraft; conducting wanding, pat-down searches, and operating x-ray machines; lifting baggage up to 50 pounds; screening and ticket review using electronic and imaging equipment.

TSOs may perform passenger screening, baggage screening, or both, and are expected to act in a courteous and professional manner. They interact continuously and effectively with the public, provide directions, respond to inquiries, and make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.

Requirements:

On-the-job training and certification exams are required. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, or at least one year of work experience in security work, aviation screener work, or x-ray technician work. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong visual observation and identification skills, and proficiency with security equipment at screening checkpoints are required.

Must be a US citizen or US National, proficient in English, and able to work irregular hours including holidays, weekends, and overtime. Must be able to stand for up to three hours, lift up to 50 pounds, and pass a background investigation (including credit and criminal checks) and drug and alcohol screening. Required to meet specific medical and vision standards and successfully complete required classroom training.

Benefits:

Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of required training, periodic recurrent training, and certification exams. The position provides exposure to professional experience in airport security and training at the FLETC Training Academy or other TSA-determined location.
